William J. Campbell papers, 1924-1954.

Papers of William J. Campbell, an Oshkosh, Wisconsin, businessman and politician, including correspondence, 1939-1954; reports and speeches, 1924-1948, 1950-1954, and undated; and other material concerning state politics and the Republican Party. Many of the papers relate to the proposed presidential candidacy of General Douglas MacArthur in 1948. Also included are clippings and scrapbooks, 1947-1951, pertaining to Campbell's efforts to acquire the T.B. Walker Indian Paintings collection for the Wisconsin Historical Society, and clippings and pictures dealing with General Douglas MacArthur.

General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (26 January 1880 – 5 April 1964) was an American five-star general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II.
